 Bethel Local Schools continues to make Student’s safety their number one priority for the 2019-2020 school year. The addition of an SRO in our building has brought even more stability and security to our facilities.


Officer Elizabeth McGuire, hired through the Miami County Sheriff’s Department, has already become part of the Hive family. She spends about 80 hours a month, walking the hallways, talking with individual students and getting to know them on a more personal level. Realizing that the climate in our country is more anti-police, Officer McGuire hangs out in the cafeteria during our four lunch times to connect with numerous students from K-12. She wants them to realize that the police are “their friends” and someone whom they can trust. She also has been a special speaker in classrooms, answering questions and instructing elementary students about “stranger danger” and the importance of letting her know if they notice something that is suspicious or unusual. She checks in with office personnel and principals to offer her assistance wherever needed.


Our safety protocols and training continue to be a daily part of our school day. We practice the required fire and tornado drills as well as conduct ALICE intruder drills once a month. We have scheduled these drills at different times within the day to enable students to be better prepared for a variety of potential scenarios they could encounter.


Teachers and staff were trained through the FASTER program last spring to handle emergency medical situations as first responders. 


Secure entrances and exits continue to be part of the Bethel routine. Once the school day has started, parents, students and community members must enter through one of the three school office entrances or be “buzzed” into the building through the Central Office secretary.


In October, the district’s management team will be revisiting the reunification processes and procedures, updating and refining those documents and submitting them to the state for approval.




      Visitor Badges

We are proud to announce that we recently purchased the RAPTOR Visitor Management System and will being using it in all of our school offices. This is just another way to strengthen Bethel’s program of campus safety for our students and faculty. The RAPTOR system will better allow us to screen visitors, contractors and volunteers.  Here’s how it works:

Upon entering a district building, visitors will be asked to present an ID such as a Driver’s License, which can either be scanned or manually entered into the system. If a parent or guardian for any reason does not have a US government-issued ID, the school personnel can use any form of identification and manually enter the visitor’s name into the RAPTOR system. The RAPTOR system will check to ensure that no inappropriate or dangerous individuals are entering the school building without our knowledge. Once the entry is approved, the RAPTOR will issue a badge that identifies the visitor, the date and the pur- pose of the visit.  A visitor’s badge will not be necessary for those who visit our school to simply drop off an item in the office or pick up paperwork. We do want to thank you for your support and understanding as we implement this process.
